Thanks also to KARL CORPRON who designed the Operation Kiwanis Claus logo. We are so lucky to have active and dedicated members.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT JOHN BENSON: We learned much about John Benson at his first “classification talk” even though he’s been a member for many years. We also suspect there is much more to learn that the 20 minutes of his talk would allow time for. John told us about his life growing up at Seattle’s Redondo Beach which had, at that time an amusement park. John spent many summers boating on the lake, without a life jacket, although he doesn’t like water and never learned to swim. Like most young men, he also had a passion for fast cars which he worked on during his teens. John starting getting into model trains when he was 12 and it became a life long passion. He plans to be buried with his remaining collection. So much for “you can’t take it with you”. John has been a Safeway worker, boat distributor, Indian fisheries manager and accountant. Initially flunking his first college level accounting class, he later went back to school and eventually got his accounting degree. He worked at Superior Asphalt for over 30 years and still works part time. His current “hobby” is fixing up his parent’s Redondo Beach home where he and Joann enjoy the beach view, and John enjoys his new man-cave.
