TRINA GOOD For our last meeting of 2011, we were warmly greeted by PAT DANIELSON, led in song by EARL HALL, and the pledge by MIKE MORRISETTE. JO MCLAIN gave the invocation. STEVE EMHOFF was Sargeant. Guests were BOB BROWN’S daughter-in-law and MAC PORTER’S grandson, Owen, who was very excited when he won Bingo!
STEVE EMHOFF conducted the meeting for PRESIDENT CAMI who is under the weather. Hope you are feeling better soon, Cami!
STEVE mentioned that the Division Council meeting was held last week where Lt. Governor MIKE MCCAY announced that he has a need for a Committee Chairman of fundraising for the Ultimate Project for Maternal Neonatal Tetanus which is predominately in third world countries. Twenty-eight million dollars has already been received by International. Six cents will buy a pill that can prevent this disease.
Some upcoming events are a Zone meeting on April 28th in Spokane. The cost is $35 per person which is paid for by our Club. All officers are encouraged to attend and the meeting is open to all Club members. Also, Kiwanis One Day is set for April 21st. The Kamiakin Club is serving breakfast at the Greenway. The West Valley Club is holding its crab feed on January 28th. The Cle Elum and Ellensburg Clubs will have their 90th birthday celebrations in 2012. The Selah Club is changing from a breakfast to lunch meeting effective January 10th. Their Tuesday meetings will be held at the Selah Civic Center.
STEVE EMHOFF reported that 118 tickets have been sold for the Father Daughter Dance and, with 4 weeks still to go, expects to sell out. JO MCLAIN needs auction items and, since she will miss our meetings in January, we should give them to STEVE EMHOFF or NATHAN WESTBROOK or they can be dropped off at KARL CORPRON’S office.
JAN LYONS introduced guest speaker, 100 year old local historian, Margaret Keys. Margaret was born in Yakima and graduated from Moxee High School in 1929. She graduated from Washington State College (now WSU) in 1935 with a degree in teaching. Margaret kept us all laughing with her program on Old Time Christmases. A lifelong collector, Margaret shared many of her antique Christmas gifts received throughout the years. She is quite a character and a true treasure.
