Poor Russ Roberts…his ticket was drawn for the 50/50 raffle. Unfortunately he drew a King instead of the illusive Jack. So close yet so far. The pot is now in the range of some serious money so bring your $$ next week and invest wisely. The chances of winning are now about as good as investing in the stock market .
Our Guest Speaker this week was our own State Senator, Curtis King. Curtis sits on four Senate Committees; Transportation, rules, Labor and Commerce and K – 12 Education. To sum up Curtis’ presentation…he is frustrated with his colleagues on both isles of the House and Senate. Curtis shared some very alarming statistics regarding the widening spread between State’s spending and projected income. Some areas that need serious attention quickly are containment educational costs, spiraling labor costs in almost every State agency and projected capital expenditures. He gave some examples of questionable decision making in the relocating of the Auhtanum Correction Facility; The questionable investment in a new facility that will house all of the State’s IT support; The Department of Corrections bloated bureaucracy and the inequity of State job retention versus the 181,000 in job losses that the private sector has had to endure during the present economic down-turn.
Next week our guest speaker will be Lisa Hall with Northwest Harvest.
