Pat Danielson Another great meeting by our very own members. PRESIDENT CHRIS COTE called the meeting to order after PAT DANIELSON with the very needed help of JULIUS GLOVER greeted everyone. JULIUS then led us in song, LINDA HACKETT gave us spiritual guidance and EARL HALL led us in our pledge to the flag.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: SALLY RODGERS, CAMI LEONARD CORBIN AND CAROL HELMS led our "Kiwanis" bowing team for Jr. Achievement to victory raising over $800. The entire event raised a whopping $20,000. Good job!
CAMI then announced Golf Day for June 8 at Sun Tides. Lunch will be served and then golf. You must sign up to have lunch or golf or both. Sign up for sure at the next meeting if you have not already.
AKTION CLUB is meeting at Harmon Center form 6 to 7.
RTG -- meeting is Wednesday at Tri Ply at 5p.m.
SGT. CAMI then had a little Rock Trivia. We had great knowledge from the likes of RICH LEWIS (who would have guessed?) and from AMY NEAL and I am sure there were many more. Our table especially appreciated Amy's knowledge.
Earl won at Bingo and LYNN BUCHANAN who announced he retired from Mountain Rescue, won then lost 50/50. It will be over $800 next week. That is $800 for the winner and $800 for our service budget!
DOUG DONEGAN was then welcomed as our latest new member. Doug is with Granite Northwest. Welcome Doug! and thank you JOHN BENSON and President Chris for sponsoring him.
Our program was the history and current plans for Rock The Gap. LINDA HACKETT was our first and second Rock the Gap Chairperson. We started small and more of a family event lasting all day with kids activites and then an evening dinner and dancing. We did break even (barely!) and then went on from there. Our first rocks were from Linda's yard and the Aktion Club painting them and then Ponderosa residents did the painting. It started as an event to go along with Gap to Gap, thanks to Brian Blount and Russ Dix, and then developed into an after event.
Now we are making $1000's of dollars and donations will have hit the $100,000 mark after this year's event.
We have completed the playground at Martin Luther King grade school, we have donated the funds for the YWCA shelter's playground and now we are doing the Greenway Fund a Foot project.
Thank you to past chairmen Linda, Kirsten, Christine, Beth. And this year's co-chairs Karl and Beth.
What a great job and what great entertainment to look forward to at this year's Rock the Gap...Vicci Martinez and Band.
