Next Week’s Program: AMY NEAL – Camp Roganunda
We were greeted by EARL HALL, the Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Veteran SALLY RODGERS, AUDREY RICE did a fine job of leading our singing and JO MCLAIN gave a lovely prayer. TERRY ARCHER won, then lost the 50/50 drawing, which is nearing $700!
Nominations for officers for the 2010-2011 year have been announced and will be voted on at the first meeting in May.
President – PAT ANDREOTTI
President Elect – CAMI LEONARD
Vice President – BECKY SCHOLL
Board Member Nominations – BOB BROWN, AMY NEAL, PHYLLIS MEYER, CAROL HELMS, PENNY BAKER
PAT ANDREOTTI announced that there would be a planning meeting for Camp Roganunda tonight at the Sports Center. The Campfire board has decided not to hold camp this summer so our workday will focus on mothballing the camp for the season.
MARY BETH WRIGHT announced that BLUE JEANS BASKETBALL is scheduled for May 10-12 (Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday). Get ready to sign up to sell tickets, keep score and sell concessions.
Our Kiwanis Bowling for Junior Achievement team raised $144 at the meeting. The team is JO MCLAIN, CAMI LEONARD, SALLY RODGERS and CAROL HELMS.
Our best programs come from our own members and last week lived up. CAROL HELMS and SALLY RODGERS each gave great classification talks and here is a synopsis of their lives to date:
CAROL HELMS is a twin. Her grandfather was very active in the Columbia Kiwanis club in Richland. He supported the food bank and many other activities. He taught Carol about “service above self”. Carol has been happily married to Mark for 27 years. She has three kids, ages 21,23 and 25. She is the foundation director at Perry Tech. Prior to working at Perry she was a travel agent and that make her realize she loves to travel. Carol was a stay at home mom for 10 years and then worked part time at the school district until CHRIS COTE snatched her up for Perry Tech. Now Carol and Mark are empty nesters and so Carol felt she had the time to devote to Kiwanis. She loves the club and the friendships she has made. Carol’s motto is Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, however you can. Carol has already been involved with Chain Gang, bowling for Junior Achievement, Rock the Gap and many other projects. What a great new Kiwanian!
SALLY RODGERS is from the Midwest, Wisconsin and Minnesota. She’s also lived in Kentucky and Florida. Sally joined the Navy when she was 19 with the goal of getting an education. She studied Spanish and is fluent which helps her in her job as an Audiologist and Executive Director of the Hearing and Speech Center. While in the Navy Sally did communications work using Morse code and triangulation to identify locations of ships? She stayed in the Navy for seven years until her daughter was born. She then was in the reserves. Sally has three kids (ages 25,27 and 29) and three grandkids. Sally enjoys scuba diving and she and her husband have dived all over the world. She also enjoys photography, gardening, sewing and reading. She heard about Kiwanis from Hearing and Speech Center board members, BETH KLINGELE, PAT ANDREOTTI, MAC PORTER and GARY STAPLES. She joined Kiwanis to meet people in the community and has really enjoyed it so far. Sally is already a bulletin scribe, on the Bowling for Junior Achievement Team and involved with Rock The Gap. We are so happy to have Sally as one of our members.
