Steve Pickett Our meeting was to order by President Christine. Our only member that can carry a tune, Julius Glover, lead in our patriotic song and Earl Hall lead us with an invocation.
Bob Brown was our Greeter today. He had John Benson introduce his lovely wife Joann. Also member Don Koehler announced his wife Evelyn as his guest today.
President Christine did some catching up on her monthly “Kiwanian of the month” awards. For January Chris named Steve Emhoff as the award winner. Steve was the lead member in putting another successful Father-Daughter dance. Karl Corpron was announced as the February winner because of his leadership in bringing the Rock the Gap committee together. Karl announced that there is a committee meeting Thursday, March11, and it will be held at 5:30 at Tri Ply Construction. For March, Christine announced that Julius Glover as Kiwanian of the month. She cited Julius’ many contributions to the club and particularly lending his vocal chords when leading us in our Patriotic Singing.
Amy Neal announced that our new badges had arrived. Condolences to Mac Porter were made and there was some comment about Mac’s badge as being so special it had to be shipped all by itself.
Spencer Hatton our Song Fest Committee Chair announced another musical extravaganza is heading our way and that it looks like all volunteers are in place to handle 250 youth representing six separate choirs. Good job Spencer!
Member Becky Sholl introduced member Stacy Drake and Helen Marieaind, representing the “Ready By Five” educational program. Helen announced some of the successes of the program and particularly their efforts in working with new families. This program is financially supported by our Club and she shared her thanks for our Clubs contribution to the program.
Steve Emhoff was our Sergeant at Arms. Happy Bucks included Wendy Aguilar’s announcement she is now an instructor at JM Perry. Way to go Wendy!! Steve’s approach to pilfering our pockets centered around historical events that took place on this date (March 9). With a couple of exceptions most of the group had little expertise in this area so this was an exercise in revenue enhancement for the Club.
Chris Christman lead us in a speedy game of Bingo and Lynn Buchanan kept the 50/50 pot growing after Pres. Chris’ lost opportunity at immediate wealth.
Past President Wendy introduced Matt Hanses, a West Valley High School student who along with five other West Valley students presented a project they are working on. These students are organizing an event that will be a “Prom Night” specifically put together for students with special needs. Working with the West Valley Special Olympic Club these students are coordinating efforts to bring 120 students from various local high schools together for a special night out. The students shared their marketing plan and it appears this is a very well organized. Matt and his fellow students have done a great job in organizing this event. President Christine announced that our club will donate $200 to help with the financial needs of this event. It was a great program……..nice to see the positive things our youth are involved in.
