FEBRUARY 16, 2010
Pat Danielson PRESIDENT CHRIS COTE opened the meeting after EARL HALL greeted us at the door. PAT DANIELSON did the invocation and JULIUS GLOVER led us in our patriotic song.
Guests: Our guests were Joann Benson, JOHN's better half and an Interclub from Apple Valley.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Chris reminded us that we all have "Free Lunch" certificates to give to prospective members.
The plans for Rock the Gap have begun. The first committee meeting will be this Thursday, Feb. 18, at Tri Ply. See committee chair KARL CORPRON for Sponsor Packets.
JoAnn Benson announced that the IAAP, International Association of Administrative Professionals, Yakima Valley Chapter, is having a luncheon on April 21 for Administrative Professionals Day. Joann has tickets and information. $22 per person.
SPENCER HATTON then told us about Songfest coming March 20th. Ads to pay for the program are available for $45 each or more if you want to sponsor more! So far MIKE WILSON and the Herald Republic are sponsors and probably more with Spencer passing the envelope and signup.
Sgt. RUSS ROBERTS then did a quiz on Valentines and Presidents and earned a bit of money for the club admin pot. EARL HALL won the Bingo $5 and MIKE WILSON won the chance at $495 but lost in the 50/50. Oh well, another chance for the rest of us!
Mike Wilson then introduced our program for the day, Noel Moxley, executive director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. Noel explained how it is a most exciting time for the Symphone with Brooke Cresswell retiring after many years with the symphony as Music Director. The symphony is in the process of interviewing 4 music directors by having each come and direct the symphony and meet with the search committee. The field has been narrowed to four from over 100 applicants from 3 continents.
The Orchestra started in 1967 as a chamber orchestra and was a volunteer group form 1975 when it became the only professional orchestra in eastern Washington.
Helen Jewett donated the money for the endowment to always pay the music director's salary. The proposed salary for the new director is $55,000 to $75,000 with benefits.
Noel is a member of the Washington State Arts Commission. Her passion is to educate children in the love of music. Children without the arts or music leaves adults with empty holes in their lives and careers. The Symphony sends out ensembles to 4th grades so children can get a look at instruments up close. Then in May the students come to the Capital Theatre to see the instruments play all together.
The program for next week is the new football team, The Warriors.
