DECEMBER 22, 2009
Pat Danielson The last meeting of 2009 brough together a full house in a small room. Guests included Glenn Rice (AUDREY'S other half); David Helseth, a good friend and Kiwanis member; Dale Carpenter, one of the most famous men in Yakima this year and PRESIDENT CHRIS' special friend, Angel. KARL CORPRON was our greeter, CAROL HELMS prayed for us and Audrey led us in singing. We hope our regular song leader, JULIUS GLOVER, is doing well after his knee replacement surgery.
President Chris thanked KIRSTEN DANIELSON for a great Christmas party which was well attended at the Convention Center with special guest Santa, (JAY CARROLL) attending.
Chris introduced Dale Carpenter who was there to sell labels that said "In God we Trust" to help feed the 5000 which will be on April 17.
Rumor was put to rest about Howard Johnsons. They are closing their restaurant but will continue to cater which includes our Tuesday luncheon!
Sgt. JO MCLAIN then had us all eating candy as we guessed the calories! She made money for the club and made us happy!
CHRIS CHRISTMAN then called Bingo and RICH LEWIS won. JAN LYONS won but lost the $316.12 for the 50/50 drawing.
Our very own CORKY MATTINGLY, the Yakima County Auditor for the last 9 years, then presented her program on voting in Washington State and Yakima County. It costs $2.42 for each vote in our county and we only have 10 people that are running the elections. Voters have the responsibility to be educated. Voting can be confusing and combative. Corky went on to inform us about the 2010 Centiniel of the right to vote for Women. The Yakima Valley Museum will host an exhibit from February to June regarding Women's rights to vote in Washington. In Washington, Women had the right to vote before we were a state and then it was the 1st state in the 20th century to have women vote. Many questions followed regarding our current voting.
No meeting next week.
