BETH KLINGELE

December 1, 2009

Mark your calendars, there will be no noon meeting Dec 15th as we will be at the Convention Center that evening for the Kiwanis Family Christmas Party. Please call or email PAT DANIELSON or KIRSTEN DANIELSON if you and your family will be attending.

NEXT WEEKS PROGRAM : Rich Austin on the Sports Commission.

There will be no Kiwanis meeting on Dec 29nd.

A few tough Kiwanians braved the cold to attend Tuesday’s meeting. _______ greeted us, STEVE PICKETT led us in the flag salute, and JO MCLAIN gave a short and sweet prayer. Our lone guest was brought by DON KOHLER who introduced us to his son Rick Kohler from Ellensburg.

SPENCER HATTON announced that SongFest will be the 3rd Saturday in March. Songfest has been a Kiwanis event for 22 years now. Spencer and six of his choir director buddies picked 3 songs last week at a Starbucks. 3 songs for 300+ singers.
Spencer is also busy being Ed the Elf with this year’s 6’ 2” Santa is JAY CARROLL. The will visit 5 schools and see over 200 special needs kids. The Santa program began over 35 years ago. We Kiwanians are committed!

PHILLYS MEYER has done a great job with today’s Salvation Army Bell ringing and it should be a great day.

After a quick board of directors vote, PRESIDENT CHRISTINE COTE passed the hat for families supported at Christmas by Children’s Wishes and Dreams. There were several families this year that were not “adopted”, so we passed that had and brought in $223. Heidi Anderson was very appreciative and said this will go a long way toward helping those families have a better Christmas.

MARK HAMPTON was honored with a 25 year Kiwanian pin. Congratulations Mark.

KIRSTEN DANIELSON was not in attendance today and her mother PAT DANIELSON let all of us know that today is her very special birthday and vouched for the fact that Kirsten is now 40.

STEVE EMHOFF was our sergeant and also announced that tickets will be available next week for January 16th’s Father Daughter Dance. A night in Venice.

RUSS ROBERTS won CHRIS CHRISTMAN’s game of bingo. EARL HALL won then lost the 50/50 drawing.

Our program, always the best, was classification talks by four of our newest members. IAN GRAVENHORST, EARL HALL, TERRY ARCHER AND LEANNE LEAHY.

Ian Gravenhorst is with ESD 105 which handles various matters for 25 school districts in our area. Ian has been in eduction for many years having previously been a Superintendent. He grew up in Condon, OR and is an Oregon Duck. He and his wife Sherry have three grown children. Ian was previously a Kiwanian in Goldendale, WA.

EARL HALL has been a Kiwanian since 1972. He has been in clubs in California, Idaho and been in most of the Yakima Area Clubs. He has good memories from each club. In 1986 he was president of Apple Vally Kiwanis and has served as Aktion Club advisor. He enjoys serving and believes that a few dedicated people can accomplish lots. Since Earl has been a member of so many Kiwanis clubs, President Cote suspects he is a spy from International.

TERRY ARCHER is the director of Horizon/Provident Group which helps the disadvantage with work skills. Terry grew up in Oakridge, Oregon, a logging town. She is married with 5 grown children.

LEANNE LEAHY thoroughly prepared for her talk. She is the development director for the YWCA. She enjoys getting to know people. She is married to Pat and they have two your children. Leanne grew up in Yakima in that house on 45th and Nob Hill that has always had the most lights at Christmas. Leanne has driven through every state and driven cross country by herself three times! She is a huge baseball fan and is obessed with World Warr II history. Her children are the most important thing in her life.

THIS WEEK’S QUOTE from CHRISTINE (with help from Bob Brown): Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Reputation is who others think you are. Character is who you really are.
