SEPTEMBER 8, 2009
Pat Danielson PRESIDENT RON welcomed us to one of his last meetings -- not that he is counting. Incoming President CHRISTINE COTE greeted us, TRESSA SHOCKLEY prayed for us and JULIUS GLOVER led us in singing.
PAST PRESIDENT WENDY AGUILAR then presented a "check" for $40,000 to the director of the YWCA for new playground equipment at the new YWCA Shelter. The $40,000 represents two years of efforts from Rock The Gap along with a match from the Yakima Kiwanis Trust ($20,000 each). This is an example of the great works that two of our presidents' projects, Wendy and Ron, have accomplished.
PRESIDENT RON then reminded us of the Bingo signups that are currently in process. We need many signups and also a few Day Captains.
Next Week there will be a special election for President Elect. PAT ANDREOTTI is running for office and will most likely be elected. He then will be installed at the installation of officers and directors on September 22 in the evening at the Clarion Hotel along with President CHRISTINE, Vice President LORI CROW and the new directors KIRSTEN DANIELSON, BETH KLINGELE, KARL CORPRON AND TRESSA SCHOCKEY. And lets not forget soon to be PAST PRESIDENT RON ZIRKLE.
The Board of Directors have decided to donate $100 to the CleEllum Kiwanis Club who recently lost all of their equipment in a fire at the Senior Citizens building where they held their meetings.
BETH KLINGELE is putting together an interclub to Selah on September 22 when their program will be on the US Post Office.
STEVE EMHOFF then reminded us of the Calendars that are for sale to raise money for the Circle K's and Key Club officers to go to meetings. Also Incoming Governor Patrick Ewings Governors Project is Project K-9. Steve shared with us the project guidelines and severalideas.
Steve also wanted us to know he will be taking names of those attending the installation. And we should also donate items for the silent auction to raise funds for Christine's President's Project. The installation dinner will be free to our members and 1 guest each and for all other guests it will be $25.00. There will be entertainment.
Sgt. LORI CROW did well on raising funds using her Labor Day theme. It seems we all enjoy Labor Day but we don't know much about its history.
GENE ROSTVOLD then won Bingo and JAN LYONS won and then lost on 50/50.
Former member Ola Vestad then presented our program on Young Eagles Flying Program. This is a program that is to get more people interested in flying and employment in the flying area.
The group offers free Young Eagle Flights on October 10 at McAllister Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. To get young people there, previously they used tv and radio but they had too many people show up and not everyone got to have a free flight. So this year they are going to clubs to get children ages 8 to 17 nominiated to be a Young Eagle flyer. Contact Ola Vestad at 952-2468 to nominate your children, grandchildren or friends. There are 20 to 25 pilots that participate and takes about 15 minutes for the flight at no charge. Signatures will be required to parents or guardians.
