ROGER BELL and WENDY AGUILAR inducted new member ROCKY MARSHALL into our club. Wendy has worked with Rocky on the Yakima River Basin Alliance Storage Board. Rocky was also sponsored by CHRISTINE COTE.
BETH KLINGELE, was given Kiwanian of the Month by PRESIDENT ROGER BELL and she thanked all that helped with, donated to or attended Rock the Gap last weekend. Nearly everyone in attendance at club had something to do with the event, which was a great success and lots of fun. Jeff Brantner also thanked the club for the great partnership we have with the Yakima Greenway and announced that the Greenway will be planting a tree of our choosing at Sherman Park in Kiwanis’s honor.
Our speaker was a familiar face, Jon Ison, former member of our club who is now a West Valley Kiwanian. John works with veterans on obtaining work source and other benefits. Veterans get preference in jobs available in our valley. His department has two vet specialists. If a veteran comes into Worksource and identifies him or herself, they do not have to wait in line and are helped right away. Not only does Jon help vets find work but also his agency helps vets with training, resume writing and other services. Unfortunately there are homeless vets in our valley and Jon and his crew help those folks as well. If you know a vet that is looking for a job or if you have a job opening and you would like a vet to fill it, contact Jon at Worksource Yakima at 306 Division St.
