Incoming President of Kiwanis and President of Perry Tech Christine Cote gave us a few facts about Perry Tech. Currently the school has the highest enrollment it’s ever had at approximately 545 students. By June the enrollment will top 600. The remodel of 41000SF will allow an additional approximately 100 students to enroll. That project will be completed in July and already houses part of the HVAC and the graphics program. The school has an 85% retention rate and all programs, with the exception of graphics are full. A few years ago the school initiated a campaign to attract more women. Currently the enrollment is 26% women, where just five years ago the percentage of women students was 4-5%. The office administration, medical office administration and medical coding programs have been very popular. The Kiwanis Trust has been providing scholarships to Perry Students for over 40 years. The Trust also provides a revolving tool fund for students. DELMAR PEARSON explained that V.O. Nickeson’s donation established the scholarship fund. DELMAR PEARSON and GENE SHIELDS have been proud to be a part of the Kiwanis Trust and the Perry scholarship program since it’s inception.
Perry Foundation Director Erin Fishburn introduced the scholarship recipients who each thanked Kiwanis and told us a bit about themselves and what brought them to Perry Tech:
Joseph Cort – Electrical
Austin Carley and Scott Hodges – Instrumentation
Ryan Quinn – Machinist
Lyndsay Shlenker – Electrical
