MARCH 31, 2009
Pat Danielson It was an Argyle April Fools Day for our PRESIDENT RON. Almost half of the club wore some kind of Argyle to give our president a hard time about his Argyle sweater vest. We all looked wonderful!
DON DAVIDSON thanked all those attending his 90th birthday celebration on Sunday, at Englewood Christian Church. And a special thanks for the wonderful cake that Kiwanis provided for the get together.
A wonderful party for a wonderful person that has given much to our club.
RUSS ROBERTS passed around the sign up for invocations. He reminded us that May 26 is Clergy Day and we are the host club. He was looking for a speaker but now he has found one: Steve Kraft who is the executive director of Community Resource Group (CRG) CRG is a faith based counseling and foster care organization here in Yakima and Steve is the associate Pastor at Yakima Evangelical Church.
PRESIDENT RON appointed the nominating committee to come up with a slate of proposed officers and directors. They will meet this week: WENDY AGUILAR, STEVE PICKETT, AUDREY RICE, PAT DANIELSON AND RON ZIRKLE.
PAT ANDREOTTI, chairman of the Roganunda work day, then passed around the sign up for May 16. Remember to check you calendar and sign up.
Sgt BECKY SCHOLL then paid her buck to express her personal feelings about the Yakima Valley School. STEVE EMHOFF told great stories about the Key Club Convention. SCOTT LALLY announced he will be a new father for the 3rd time!
BOB BROWN then won Bingo and JOHN BENSON didn't win the 50/50. It is now up to $279.50.
PROGRAM CHAIRPERSON, TRESSA SHOCKLEY
then introduced Harvey Davis who explained to us in his program "Changes" that he feels we have a crisis on our hands, a state of emergency with the criminal activities of our youth and the problems of the homeless. Harvey explained how he did drugs and was in a gang and how he got out. His experiences were quite different than most of ours but he made the change and gives credit to people like Kiwanians.
He started in 2008 with a vision and wants to make a change and make a difference. He has come to the meeting to plant a seed - to make a difference, so that we would go out of our comfort zone, to be more proactive.
Next week's program will be a presentation by Supt. Ben Soria and Paul Larson on the proposed school levy.
