Beth Klingele NEXT WEEKS PROGRAM: the Junior League Cookbook – we have been promised samples!
But back to this last meeting: new member SCOTT LALLY greeted us. KIRSTEN DANIELSON prayed for us. AMY NEAL inspired us as sergeant with service inspired quotes, and PRESIDENT RON told a charming red-neck joke. SHANNON BIRD brought a guest and potential member RICK (sorry didn’t catch your last name, Rick) and she also won bingo. But UNFORTUNEATELY (or fortunately if your name is KARL CORPRON who is more than $1000 richer this week) our 50/50 pot will start over next week.
Welcome back DON DAVIDSON who is recovering nicely and thanked all for their thoughts and prayers.
Welcome again also guest STACY DRAKE who has turned in her application for membership!
JO MCLAIN is looking for silent auction items and also old beach movies (think Annette Funicello) for a fun basket that will fit in with the beach theme of this years Father Daughter Ball. She is also looking to borrow a surf board for the photo op.
STEVE EMHOFF invites all to a meeting of the new internet Kiwanis Club of Cascadia who meet online the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 7:30pm at www.cascadia.org. If you “attend” please let BETH KLINGELE (bethk@triply.com) so we get credit.
PRESIDENT RON reminds us all to turn in November service hours to JAY CARROLL, so we get credit and he looks good.
Our speaker was Dale Carpenter who shared with a great community service project he is involved with called Children of the Nations (COTNI.org). The project is to create enough meals to feed 50000 people in a 6 hour period. The meals (beans, rice, lentils, spices) are delivered to Malawi, the Dominican Republic, Seirra Leone and Uganda. The funds to pay for the food are raised largely by recycling of papers, cans, cardboard, phone books, etc. You can call Dale Carpenter at Mercy Theaters or drop off your recycling at Michaelson packaging if you want to help out. One meal costs only about 25cents to produce. Thanks to JOHN BENSON who stood up and offered to give the program a container of old records.
