AUGUST 19, 2008
Pat Danielson Your scribe arrived late so I am assuming that everyone did what they were supposed to do on the Greeting, the singing, the praying and PRESIDENT WENDY opened the meeting in fine style!
The guests were (they were written down so I got those): Linda Cyr, wife of our speaker; Susan Movorka, Guest of THERESA VITELLO. Susan is the new Camp Fire employee; Enrigue Jevons, guest of RUSS ROBERTS and Lee Maras, guest of GENE ROSTVOLD. If my memory serves me correctly, Lee is an employee of the Yakima School District and has been one of our speakers.
ANNOUCEMENTS:
GENE past around the sign up for Chain Gang which starts in September. This is where we all take care of the sideline markers for all of the Davis and Ike home football games. It is great fun and a wonderful way to get to know your fellow Kiwanian's and friends. So sign up often!
BINGO AT THE FAIR: ROGER BELL then explained the new set up for Bingo at the Fair. We will have a day captain plus 4 people for each shift and there will only be two shifts: 1 to 6 and 5:30 to Closing. Also the Day Captain will need to be there early at opening to make sure Bingo is open. When you sign up, also sign up a friend, spouse, relative for our "Bring a Friend" emphasis. We still need Day Capitals for Set Up and the Last Day of the Fair.
DEL PEARSON made a donation to the Kiwanis Trust for his 89th birthday on August 3 after he almost got a ticket for hiding his handicapped parking permit! Del does great things for our club and the trust!
DR. MIKE WILSON then announced that our club received the Distinguished Club Award for last year and President Joe Kenish and STEVE PICKETT received the Distinguished President's Award and JAY CARROLL received the Distinguised Secretary's Award. We are Distinguished for sure!
RON ZIRKLE then reported from District Convention that our district dues are going up but possibly we will not feel those on an individual basis. That will be decided at the Board level. Patrick Ewing is the new Governor Elect.
50-50 BOB BROWN was the new winner but no winner and the pot grows! Is Bob really lucky or is he buying most of the tickets??????
Program: Our former President Ray Cyr came back to us to report how his Skills USA Program at Davis High School performed at their competitions. (We not only have supported them with well wishes but we monetarily supported them also!) The Skills USA Program that Ray teaches is a wood working class that also emphasizes student development in leadership so that the students are well equipped for jobs when they leave school. Ray started the program 2 years ago. Ray brought along two students, Sunny Sagar and Bryce Kaufman. Sunny had competed and Bryce was the "tool man". Bryce received much ribbing for misplacing a tool that had to be retrieved from the West Side after competition. Sunny gave us a power point presentation on the competition and brought along the table that was made. The performed well in Regionals with a 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th. In state, Sunny placed 12th. Way to go!!
Just a reminder: Father-Daugher Dinner Dance (in January) has an Hawaiian theme and now is the time to get your Silent Auction things since they are on sale!
