JULY 22, 2008
Russ Dix STEVE SOELBERG greeted guests: Bill Glinn, former member Joe Kennish (visiting from Reno), and DON KOHLER’s ever present companion Evelyn. JULIUS GLOVER led us in song, followed by JO MCCLAIN’s invocation.
CAMI LEONARD passed around the sign-up for next week’s BBQ lunch and Golf Day. So far there are not many teams playing golf - only four - so there is plenty of room if you want to play. Those attending the BBQ lunch meeting MUST LET Cami know, so Suntides can have an accurate count for lunch.
BRIAN BLOUNT requested anyone interested in participating in a Moonlight Hike around Naches Peak on Friday, August 15th (the night before Case of the Blues) to e-mail and let him know.
DON DAVIDSON encouraged everyone to attend the latest performance at the Warehouse Theater, An Enchanted Evening.
RON ZIRKLE was put on the spot to talk about last week’s Leadership Seminar for incoming Board and Officers. He thanked STEVE EMHOFF, DR. MIKE WILSON, and STAN PRATT for their instruction during the evening and STEVE PICKETT for feeding all attendees so well.
Jo McClain reminded us all that we are the Aktion Club hosts for September and October. She needs drivers for a trip to Moses Lake on September 6th for a picnic.
The meeting really took off with Sergeant DAN MARPLES. He introduced himself as a coin gatherer and passed out some of his collection. He quizzed each table as to the value of the coin they had at their table (although Dan took most of them back before he told us their actual value). The coins were worth between $35 and $1,875, at least the one’s he was willing to show.
Dan also called Bingo, won by Steve Emhoff. PAT DANIELSON won the chance to win the $453 in the 50/50 Raffle, but drew a five instead of the Jack.
It has been said many times that some of our best programs are from our members, and this meeting was a true test. Having our speaker cancel with no time to get a replacement, KIRSTEN DANIELSON decided that everyone would have a chance to talk about anything they wanted, business included, for one minute.
Pat Danielson started with a talk about BBM Financial.
LORI CROW - encouraged us to vote against the upcoming initiative on health care worker training.
Joe Kennish - the complete remodel of his Reno store, that took under a week.
Brain Blount - on behalf of RUSS DIX’s letter to the editor and then about how Argus Insurance has a branch office in Reno, Joe’s wife Cheryl who continues the job she had when they lived in town.
Jo McClain - the Clarion Hotel’s private pool for special experiences.
RON ANDERSON - the Yakima real estate market.
CHRIS CHRISTMAN - history of his work involvement.
RICK LARSON - Goodfruit Grower and Master Gardener Magazines.
KARL CORPRON - his dad’s greenhouses and feature in Master Gardener Magazine.
RICHARD ENSEY - his involvement in low income rentals.
LYNN BUCHANAN - his warehouse and truck scales.
There were still many more stories to hear, but time ran out. Hopefully, there will be another canceled program in the not too distant future.
