$50/50 LYNN BUCHANAN not only was running the 50/50 but had his ticket drawn for the $399.50 pot but (too bad) he did not win. We all have another chance. Soon there will only be Jacks in the deck!
BINGO was won by KIRSTEN DANIELSON who also introduced the program for the day.
PROGRAM: SISTER CIY OF MOREILIA, MEXICO given by Juven Garcia. Juven, owner of Rejuvenators Copier and a Yakimanian for 18 years, explained to us the relationship and history of Moreilia becoming a sister city of Yakima. The start of
“Sister Cities” came with President Eisenhower who emphasized promotion and diplomacy between people, countries and cultures. 121 countries have Sister City relationships. City officials explore different cultures and economic development.
Leaders of Moreilia will be at the Central Washington State Fair to give us a better look at the city of Moreilia. Fire trucks have been donated by Yakima to Moreilia and they are running and saving lives. The Symphony’s have done an exchange along with our Museum. Yakima exports agriculture expertise and humanitarian relief.
Tourism is big in Moreilia which is located between Mexico City and Guadalahara. Most Mexican’s here are from the state of Michoacan where Moreilia is located. The produce that they ship is mainly melon’s and tropical fruit. There is a direct link by rail from Moreilia to Kansas City.
Fundraisers to help the Sister City efforts include Fiesta in May with dinner and musicians at The Seasons. Projects now are the gathering of wheel chairs that can be sent to Moreilia. Donations are accepted.
