MARCH 4, 2008
Beth Klingele Our greeter was BRIAN BLOUNT. STAN PRATT saved us with his singing and JO MCLAIN prayed for us, and for a successful Songfest coming up this Saturday at the Capitol Theater.
Our program speaker was Don Whitehouse, from the Washington State Department of Transportation. Don spoke about TRANS-action, the local community group whose goal is to prioritize transportation strategies to solve transportation problems and encourage economic vitality in the greater Yakima area. Don estimates that because this group has come together to prioritize projects rather than many groups asking for different things, we have received over $120million of transportation funding for our area than we would have received. He gave us information about several planned and “in the planning stage” projects for our area including the $32million Valley Mall Blvd. project than will begin construction in 2010. This project will contain roundabouts which have shown to be much safer than intersections. Don also showed us a cool video on the $545million 5 year I-90 project that will begin in 2010 featuring a snow shed tunnel to help lessen the affects of avalanches.
Our guest was Danny Parsley guest of KIRSTEN DANIELSON.
PAT ANDREOTTI asked us all to mark our calendars for Saturday March 17th which is CAMP ROGANUNDA WORK DAY. Sign up sheets will be out soon.
SPENSER thanked in advance all the many Kiwanis volunteers for this year’s Songfest which will feature 10 choirs, a marimba band and a Kiwanis specially commissioned musical number.
TERESA VITELLO thanked all who attended and donated to the Camp Fire dinner last Saturday that raised $10k or more.
