JANUARY 29, 2008
Beth Klingele We were greeted warmly by RON ZIRKLE, prayed for earnestly by KARL CORPRON, and lead in song (I don’t have an adjective for this one) by JAY CARROLL.
We welcomed Stephanie Gilmore, guest of GENE ROSTVOLD and daughter of PAT GILMORE who is involved with the historical preservation society and interested in being a member of our club. Stephanie is well qualified, having worked bingo and danced at the father daughter dances with her father. She’s also a carpenter – Camp Roganunda committee take note! (CAMI LEONARD wonders if she also likes to partay…if so we can use her on the Rock the Gap committee!)
STEVE EMHOFF reported that the father daughter dance was a wonderful success. The move to the Clarion was a great change and the turn out was wonderful. A big thanks goes out to all the volunteers, donors of silent auction items, and Pat Gilmore for donating the diamond pendant for the drawing. Next years theme is “A Night in Hawaii” and planning is already underway.
Songfest at the Capitol Theater is fast approaching on Saturday March 8th announced SPENCER HATTON. Volunteer sheets will be available next week, 7 choirs are already signed up!
LYNN BUCHANAN honored with a HIXON award! DR. MIKE and PRESIDENT WENDY surprised Lynn Buchanan with a Hixon award for his many years of public service with Kiwanis clubs, Mountain Rescue and our City Council. We are honored to have Lynn as a member of our club.
Interclubs – BETH KLINGELE has scheduled an interclub Thursday at Apple Valley and Tuesday morning at Selah. Don’t forget to buy tickets for the West Valley Kiwanis Crab Feed on February 23. That counts as an interclub, and I’m told the crab will be spectacular.
CHELSEA SNODGRASS was our sergeant and while noting that she is not currently in labor, she hopes to be so very soon. We had fun guessing the circumference of her belly and the winner was Dr. Mike’s table.
President Wendy introduced our speaker, Matthew Solomon, Director of Family Services at Epic. Epic and World Vision are collaborating to bring goods and supplies to non-profit organizations, school districts, churches and service agencies throughout Central Washington. Non-profits can “shop” at Epic’s warehouse for all kinds of goods by paying a monthly membership fee of approximately 1/3 of the value of the goods. Items such as office supplies and furniture, education supplies, craft supplies, repair supplies and personal care items are available. Several non-profits are already utilizing the distribution center. The center is located at 720 N 16ht Ave. Suite A. 509-654-7300 or access it online at http://store.epicnet.org.
