JANUARY 8, 2008
Russ Dix KIRSTEN DANIELSON greeted the three guests at the first meeting of 2008: Ron Edwards, accompanying DON KOHLER; as well as Connie Buchanan and her cousin Sally, brought by LYNN BUCHANAN. KARL CORPRON was our invocator.
Everyone was reminded that JO MCCLAIN is collecting auction items for the upcoming Father Daughter Dance, January 26th at the Clarion Hotel. Ticket sales have been a little slow so far. President WENDY encouraged us to contact her with ideas on who might want/need the $65 per couple tickets. She will then coordinate with STEVE EMHOFF to get those people there and help fill the event.
West Valley Kiwanis’ Annual Crab Feed is February 23rd. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children.
THERESA VITELLO passed around Save the Date cards for the upcoming Campfire “Flash to the Fifties” Annual Dinner. It will be held on February 28th from 5:30-8:30 at the Ahtanum Youth Park. She hopes to see many Kiwanians in attendance.
STEVE PICKETT had calendars for distribution. He maintains he was asked to bring them, but could have spurred some “calendar wars” with certain other members. If you need a 2008 calendar come to the next meeting, there could be many.
DAN MARPLES gave a New Year’s Resolution rundown as Sergeant-at-arms. Many of those at the meeting saw themselves in his funny list of resolutions and paid a dollar. PAT DANIELSON called Bingo, won by MARK HAMPTON. CHRIS COTE had the opportunity to win the 50/50 Raffle Prize of $30, but drew a seven of diamonds.
Lynn was the day’s featured presenter. He gave a slide show entitled “Mountain Rescue Mission History”. He showed slides of many rescues throughout Washington and told the stories attached to each one. It was clear to all in the room that Lynn, as well as Connie, have had some exciting adventures in the mountains of Washington and beyond.
Next week’s speaker will also be outdoor oriented, Herb Schmidt of Selah Kiwanis on some cool hikes in the Pacific Northwest.
