DECEMBER 11, 2007

Russ Dix

The day’s meeting was called to order by President WENDY. She coerced JULIUS GLOVER into leading us in song, allowed STEVE SOELBERG to invocate, and let LOUISE TABAYOYAN introduce the lone guest of the day, Evelyn Kohler.

Wendy reminded everyone that there would be no regular meeting for the next THREE weeks! Next week is the Family Christmas Party (more on that in a moment) and the following two Tuesday’s are Christmas and New Year’s Day.

DON DAVIDSON passed around the Greeter Sign-up for the next few months. It was quickly being filled.

PAT DANIELSON passed around the RSVP sheet for the FREE FOR EVERYONE Family Christmas Party to be held December 18th at Englewood Christian Church. She needed to know any changes to the guest list. The fun begins at 6:00 and everyone is encouraged to e-mail photos to CHELSEA SNODGRASS in advance so she can prepare a fun PowerPoint to keep people busy before Santa arrives.

Speaking of Santa, SPENCER HATTON announced upcoming school visits by Santa and Edward the Elf. This coming Friday, Monday and Tuesday the trendy twosome will be visiting area special needs classes to dispense stuffed animals and good cheer. Contact Spencer or ROGER BELL if you want to go along.

Key Club Representatives Anna and Tracy were on hand to let everyone know about an upcoming “Rock-a-thon” fund raiser to be held on January 12th. The place is yet to be determined, but all the proceeds raised from the rocking chair marathon event will go to Camp Primetime. Stay tuned for more information as it become available.

STEVE EMHOFF reminded us that the Father/Daughter Dance is coming up January 26th, It will be at the Clarion this year, cost is $65 per couple. He is looking for sponsors to chaperone young women from the Trailseekers Club. Please let he or STEVE PICKETT know if you would like to escort a young lady or pay for her attendance at the event.

Melanie Gilmore, School District Levy Chair, and MARYBETH WRIGHT, School District Employee Extraordinaire, informed us about the upcoming levy election. No, it is not on the ballot because it only needs a simple majority to pass and yes, it is actually going to reduce the tax amount by about nine cents. Neither Marybeth or Melanie were in tip top form, both suffering from sicknesses, so we were encouraged to “vote yes and vote often” by a nameless member of the audience. Melanie did remind us that L is for levy and learning, B is for bond and building. That should make it easy to remember when the ballots show up in our mailbox.

Matthew Solomon, Director of Family Support for EPIC, was introduced. He gave a quick preview of a future program he will be presenting on the Central Washington Distribution Center. This new venture will partner EPIC with World Vision to bring supplies to non-profits throughout Central Washington. More will be explained when Matthew makes a formal, detailed presentation at a future date.

Wendy got to perform two first-time functions as President: induction of a new member and presentation of a regular badge.
BETH BLUM-SPIKER earned her “blue” badge in record time and is now a bona fide member of our club.
TRESSA SHOCKEY (my apologies for any possible misspelling) was officially installed as new member and instantly gave her classification speech.
She is a tried and true Yakimainian, having grown up here in the West Valley school system. She went away to graduate from WSU, but returned to live in a place she loves. She is currently membership director at the YMCA and is excited about the many changes taking place there. She is married to Wesley and has two “kids”, her Boston Terriers Mia and Dudley. She is also a member of Junior League and is looking forward to getting involved with Kiwanis (she has already been a Bell Ringer). Welcome Tressa!

RON ZIRKLE made each table sing Christmas Carols, and had “a jury of their peers” vote on whether the table had to pay a fine, for his festive Sergeant. KARL CORPRON won bingo. JOHN BENSON, 50/50 chair, somehow had his number drawn so he was able to select the winning card, but didn’t.

Next week Family Christmas Party!
