NOVEMBER 20, 2007
Pat Danielson Our Pre Thanksgiving meeting was a good one with PRESIDENT WENDY AGUILAR calling us to order minus the Bell!
Our Greeter was President Wendy doing the duties for our special bring a guest meeting.
Your scribe had just come from the dentist so she did not do a good job getting everything down! So forgive the lack of names and then I promise to do better Tuesday.
Guests: THERESA VITELLO brought Mathew Soloman from Epic (he will be our speaker in January.) RON ANDERSON brought wife Mary Jane.
We rearranged the schedule and had our program first:
Jim Collins from Cascade Wine Company brought his recommendations for Thanksgiving Dinner wines. He brought three whites and three reds but we were not allowed to taste! His while recommendations included Naches Heights Wineries' dry Reisling and a German Reisling from Diel. He said that these would be great with stuffing and turkey and great with food with a kick. The third white was from Walla Walla, Viognier. It has a tropical flavor, soft and fruity and also goes with spicy foods and sea foods.
The three reds inlcuded a Pinot Noir, Lange, from the Willamette Valley. This wine has more red fruit than black fruit and goes well with turkey or salmon. The second was from France's Rhoan Valley, a Grenache Syrah. Most Syrah's will overpower turkey but this one would be good. The third red was from Wine Glass Cellars from Zillah and was their Sangstovise. (My spelling is probably not correct!)
Jim said that most of our Washington wines tend to be dense but Wine Glass Cellars is not so dense.
His Cascade Wine Co. started in March of 2006 and is located next to the Barrel House at 26 North First St. They "feature small-production, artisanal wines from around the globe with an emphasis on bottlings from Washington, Oregon and the Northwest". The wines are "hand-picked after extensive research and tasting." The have wine gift baskets and would be most happy to help you select the perfect wine for any occasion. They are open Mon - Saturday, 11-8. www.cwcwine.com
Announcements: BRIAN BLOUNT asked if there were any members interested in a moonlight hike in December on snowshoes or cross country ski's. Email Brian if you are interested.
AKTION CLUB needs drivers on November 27th. If you are not doing Bell Ringing and can help out come to the meeting at 7:30 to offer rides home.
The 50/50 was up over $300 and again no winner. LOUISE TABAYOYAN picked but not good enought! MAC PORTER won the special Chevron Bingo.
SGT. AMY NEAL then did her first time Sgt. duty and did pretty good in bringing in the money with Thanksgiving trivia.
Meeting next week is Major Morrow from the Salvation Army.
