Kirsten as program chair then introduced our speakers for the week, Rich Austin, Director, and Jamie Patrick, Manager, from the Sports Commission of the YV&C Bureau. Member, GENE ROSTVOLD, who could not be at the meeting, was noted as the head of the Sports Commission Committee.
Rich with Jamie's assistance on the computer, then explained to us the works of the Sports Commission and how they go about helping bring in many dollars to the area through the various sports activities. The various WIAA activities book the most hotel roooms throughout the year. They are very active in getting more events here each year. The will not sell sponsorships or will not run an event but they help with arranging facilities and motel rooms. The events which bring in sn estimated $9.4 million to the area include AAU Basketball, Track, Soccer, the Hot Shots, 3 on 30 Basketball Tournament, the Sun Dome Volley Ball Festival, the N.W. Junior Jamboree Volley Ball Tournament and the Sports Award Luncheon.
The goal of the Sports Commission is to create a positve event, generate overnight stays, generate revenue for local busnesses and provide additional funding sources for the Sports Commission. The Sports Commission does not charge for its services. They will free of charge send maps and help book motel rooms.
Program next week: Nathan Hull of the Administrative Profession Program at Perry Tech.
