OCTOBER 9, 2007
Russ Dix It was a good first meeting (at Howard Johnson’s anyway) for newly installed president WENDY. DON DAVIDSON greeted us at the door, STAN PRATT lead us in America, and LINDA HACKETT invocated before a slew of announcements.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
KARL CORPRON explained the new Key Club fundraiser. Members will at Wray’s 56th Avenue store October 27th and 28th collecting food/donations. It sounds like they will be on site for 24 hours. Everyone is encouraged to stop by during the weekend to support our newest club (and those hard working members who helped us during bingo).
STEVE EMHOFF stated the Roster will be out December 1st. He is requesting Committee Chairs get him the information on members by the end of next week. Printing will not be delayed waiting for information, so get it to Steve.
GENE ROSTVOLD updated everyone on the Zephael Stadium seat project of which we were a major sponsor. A huge volunteer work party got everything that was delivered installed. They are now awaiting some final pieces from the manufacturer before the project can be completed.
CHELSEA SNODGRASS conducted a “famous firsts” Sergeant-at-arms. JOHN WARREN called Bingo, won by JOHN BENSON – who reported that real Bingo grossed $11,712, which means the club will net in the neighborhood of $6,000. CINDY FAHSHOLTZ won the right to choose in the 50/50 Raffle, but drew a 2.
SIGN-UPS
Sign up sheets were passed around for Greeters, Invocations, and Committees.
PROGRAM
President Wendy presented her goals/plans for the coming year. She encouraged all Committee Chairs to get their information to Steve for the Roster and get a work list to PAT DANIELSON for the website (and much needed reminders).
Wendy then launched into her new member initiative by introducing Barbie the Kiwanian. Barbie will visit with a member each week and stay with them until that member brings a prospective new member to a meeting. A good meeting for that to occur will be the third meeting of each month (next Tuesday in October) when program chair KIRSTEN DANIELSON will make a special effort to have a great program. At that meeting all guests will receive a little extra attention and be made to feel even more special than usual. Wendy’s hope is that this will translate into an influx of new, quality members for our club. RICH LEWIS was the first Yakima Kiwanian visited by Barbie and her new dog (because she knew that Rich liked dogs). No telling who Barbie will change as she travels on to the next member once Rich brings a guest/prospective member.
Wendy also outlined her President’s Project, an ADA accessible playground module for the new YWCA campus. Wendy has already secured matching funds from the Trust to make this project a reality even faster.
The year has started with a bang. Bring a guest to the next meeting and hear John Cooper, president/CEO of the Yakima Valley Visitors and Convention Bureau.
