Board Meeting Minutes
May 5, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM by President Mel Light.

Also in attendance were Wendy Aguilar, Sally Baldwin, Christine Cote, Pat Danielson, Cherie Ergeson, Joe Kennish, Amy Neal, Steve Pickett, Kirsten Stoffer, Ron Zirkle, Steve Emhoff and Louise Tabayoyon. Guests were John Benson, Jack Gilbert, and Stan Pratt.

Minutes Approved – Sally moved and Cherie seconded to approve the April 7th meeting minutes. Motion carried.

Officers Elected – Joe moved and Ron seconded to elect Louise Tabayoyon to the position of Secretary for 2005-2006. Motion carried. Kirsten moved and Pat seconded to elect Mike Wilson to the position of Assistant Secretary for 2005-2006. Motion carried. Steve moved and Ron seconded to authorize the secretary to destroy the ballots of the May 3rd general election of officers and directors for the 2005-2006 year. Motion carried.

New Member – Joe moved and Wendy seconded to accept Gary Chalfant’s application for membership effective 5/01/05. Motion carried. Gary’s sponsors are Kirsten & Amy.

Member Resignations – Kirsten moved and Cherie seconded to accept Randy Johnson’s resignation effective 3/31/05 because his job has temporarily relocated him to the Spokane area. Motion carried. Pat moved and Sally seconded to accept Penny Baker’s resignation effective 4/30/05 because her new job will involve traveling outside the area. Motion carried.

Member Roster – Pat moved and Ron seconded to authorize the unbudgeted expense of approximately $800 to print 80 rosters in the format used in previous years. Motion carried. Rosters should be available in a few weeks.

Kiwanis Logo Usage – Louise shared the Kiwanis International packet, including CD, which outlines the proper use of the Kiwanis logo. The packet will be kept by the secretary and made available for check-out when needed for project printings.

Board Policies & Procedures – Louise distributed copies of the club Bylaws and the club Policies and Procedures to all officers and directors. Additional copies are available, if needed.

Financial Reports – Louise distributed Administration and Community Services financial reports which summarized budget to actuals for period October 2004 – April 2005. Copies on file.

Convention Delegates – Pat moved and Joe seconded to approve Mel Light and Steve Pickett as our club’s voting delegates and Steve Emhoff and Lori Crow as alternate voting delegates at the 90th Kiwanis International Convention in Hawaii on July 2-6, 2005. Motion carried.

WSU vs. UI Game Tickets – Stan reported that the American Red Cross has gifted our club with 2 pair of game tickets to the Sept. 1st WSU vs. Univ of Idaho game. Joe moved and Cherie seconded to raffle the tickets at Rock the Gap and split the proceeds 50%:50% with the ARC. Motion carried.

Key Club Sponsorship – Steve Emhoff proposed that our club consider starting a Key Club at Eisenhower High School. Cost would be $600 to cover the bell, gavel and dues for all new members for the first year and could be started up with the next school year. Other Key Clubs in Yakima are at Davis and West Valley. Amy moved and Joe seconded to authorize Steve Emhoff to explore the availability of a faculty advisor, club advisor, and potential members. Motion carried.

Rock the Gap – Kirsten announced that plans and sales are continuing look good. Next meeting will be on May 11th, 4:30 pm at the Barrel House. John distributed pictures of the handicap accessible swing equipment which was recently installed at MLK Elementary. These pictures can be used as visual aides to all who are promoting RTG and selling tickets. Steve Emhoff reported that he has taken every opportunity to share this club project in his Keynote speaking engagements as Lt. Governor.

Swim Meet – John reported that because of the City of Yakima’s recent announcements of pool closures, it is uncertain if there will be a June swim meet or where it may be held. More information will be shared as received.

Fair Bingo – Christine reported that Bingo planning will begin soon. The first items to be addressed will be to appoint an Assistant Bingo Meister and to discuss the possibility of a Spanish day bingo caller. More information to follow.

Other Items – Group consensus declined funding requests from a local high school band to fund a trip to Italy and from a high school music student to fund a trip to Wash DC. The secretary will forward the appropriate sorry letter.

Adjournment – With no other business to discuss the meeting was adjourned 1:04 pm.
