AUGUST 21, 2007

Pat Danielson

It is like reliving the past with all of our past presidents doing a fine job running the meetings. SPENCER HATTON rang the none bell and began our meeting with a good singing of America led by JULIUS GLOVER after our returning new member RON ANDERSON greeted us warmly. JO MCLAIN then prayed for us after sharing that her house had been broken into and she lost her jewelry. She then reminded us to remember what we really should be treasuring.

SPENCER then had the following announcements:

KIWANIS NIGHT AT THE BEARS: Thursday, August 23, at 7:05 p.m. Everyone get your own ticket, own food and then meet at the covered area where we will be sharing the area and hopefully bring home a victory!

PICNIC HONORING OUR LT. GOVERNOR ROGER BELL: Tuesday night, August 28 at Ponderosa Retirement Center (Parking at the church across the way) 6 p.m., $10 each. Mike Wilson already needs our head count but it wouldn't hurt to send him an email so he would know when he gets back from convention, how many of us plan on coming.

KEY CLUB PICNIC AND INSTALLATION: Thursday, September 6, at Randall Park, 48th Ave side near the Creek. Contact Steve Emhoff for what you can bring. Our Club is the sponsoring Club for the new Eisenhower Key Club.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

KL WOMBACHER then reminded us that Bingo at the Fair is coming up. He sent around a sign up sheet for Day Captains so give him a call or email to get your day....

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION: LISA GREDVIG joined our club with sponsors STEVE EMHOFF AND KARL CORPRON. Lisa is our Key Club Sponsor and is the Business Education teacher at Eisenhower High School. Her husband is Gary and she has twins, Haley and Taylor, 11 years old. Her email is gredvig.lisa@yakimaschools.org and her phone number is 573-2634. She won't be able to come to our Tuesday meetings but we can find her at the Key Club Meetings! Welcome Lisa.

SGT: BETH BLUM SPIKER then had a guaranteed money making Sgt. when she fined everyone for their lack of sun screen! Great one, Beth!

DON KOHLER is doing very well at Memorial Hospital. He asked for a golf club when he was doing his physical therapy. He is in room 554.

SETH SHEA announced he is the new Resident Director at Blossum House at 51st and Nob Hill. His email is sshea@alcco.com

RUSS ROBERTS shared a thank you from one of our scholarship recipients for Camp Roganunda. He loved it!

STEVE EMHOFF shared on the QT that his son Jason will be receiving the Governor's Cup Award at convention this weekend for being the inspiration for Kiwanis raising $170,000 for the Burn Foundation. Don't tell Jason, it is a surprise!

KARL CORPRON then did our 50/50 with a chance for winning $89 but too bad, STAN PRATT drew an ace and the pot grows larger for next week.

DON DAVIDSON then called a game of Bingo.

The injured BRIAN BLOUNT then introduced our speaker John Colgan and his assistant Emily. John is the director of Yakima Valley Community Foundation. He has been their since the inception of the Foundation in 2004 and before that led other fund raising efforts. The Yakima Valley Community Foundation is a collection of funds for perpetuity to make the Valley better. It covers Yakima County and everyone can be a donor. It gives the donor the opportunity to do what their dream is. There presently our 25 community foundations in the state. Our community foundation began when the Sisters of Providence left Yakima and contributed the $7million dollars that was in the Providence Health Foundation and the profits from the sale of the hospital. They also requested that Yakima Regional Hospital give $10 million ($1 million for each of 10 years). At the end of June, the fund was $22,501,935.

It is following the theme of "For Good, For Ever". They will be awarding grants. This year they gave away $340,000 in competitive grants and hope to raise those amounts as they continue to grow.

The Foundation gives the opportunity for those to give in ways that they desire: Community Endowment Funds, Donor Advised Funds, Designated Funds, Field of Interest Funds and Non profit Organization Funds.

A great asset for our Community. www.yvcf.com

Next week's program is Rod Nelson and next week's President is Pat Gilmore.
