Kiwanis Meeting
Fireside Room, Epic Place

Our meeting was called to order by our soon-to-be "gaveless" President Barb Greco. An internal audit committee needs be formed to research operating procedures to assist the President in retaining physical control of the gavel at all times.

Becky Scholl did a wonderful impromptu job of leading the club in prayer.

Guests were introduced by Wendy Aguilar. They included an inter-club from Moses Lake, 2 came via air and 2 by ground. We also had Lynn Buchanan and the youngest Aguilar, Christopher.

Steve Emhoff gave a wrap-up of the District Convention which recently concluded in Yakima. Steve shared that those attending gave high marks for the Yakima Convention Center as well as the 2 Red Lion Hotels. Bonnie Dunbar gave a marvelous performance on NASA and the convention participants felt privileged to have her as a speaker. Our Club received numerous banner patches (the scribe counted 9 or 10), including the Mel Harris Distinguished Secretary Award to our own Velma Crawford.

Our Sergeant at Arms, Mel Light, did a very good job of collecting from all in attendance. Young or old, he or she, smart or not-so-smart, no stone was left unturned as he pointed out our inadequacies.

The Central Washington Non-Profit Resource Center was the meeting place this week and its’ Executive Director, Frank Glaspey, was the featured speaker. The Center has been on the drawing boards for the past 3-4 years. Through the vision of corporate sponsors such as LeMaster and Daniels and Jeld-Wen, the Center was created in January, 2003.

The mission of the center is to bring affordable services to non-profit groups within the community. Services include:
· Needs assessments and non-profit board development programs.
· Cooperative purchasing program which is particularly valuable when addressing fringe benefit packages for smaller non-profit groups.
· Technology training – a new 12 station technology lab is available on-site to the community.
· Fund raising and grant writing.
· Affordable computer classes
· Management seminars

Next week our meeting will be back at our normal meeting location
