July 1, 2003
Steve Pickett The meeting started off on a high note (and several off notes) as President Barb bravely lead the group in the singing of America and Oh Canada. The lack of Bingo cards at the tables only contributed to what could be best described as a “unique” attack on the sensory system. We are hopeful that Julius will be back to our meetings soon.
Lynn Smith introduced our visitors:
Jon Ison brought Randy Johnson who is a potential new member.
Brian Blount brought daughter Laura, who is home visiting from the Navel Academy.
Chris Christman brought a potential new member Christine Neill.
Kamiakin member Lynn Buchanan joined us and saved the environment by riding his bicycle while in his full business suit. What dedication.
John Benson gave a report on the Swim Meet. He indicated that we were a little short on help but everyone got fed and we generated 90 – 95 hours of community service.
J. Blake announced that due to the lack of volunteers there will be no Bingo at the Fourth of July event at the Fairgrounds. Volunteers are needed to supervise children activities. There are 2 shifts; 1 to 4 PM and 4 to 10PM.
Steve Emhoff gave a presentation on his recent trip to the International Convention held in Indianapolis. He indicated attendance was down from prior conventions but a lot things got accomplished. International dues are increasing however, those Kiwanians in 3rd world countries will have their dues increased commensurate with their earnings ability. Steve indicated that several proposals failed to obtain enough affirmative votes to pass. Steve did indicate that Indianapolis is a wonderful city and everyone should put it on their list of places to visit.
Roger Bell announced that there will be Inter Clubs next week at the Action Club on Tuesday and Sunnyside on Thursday.
It was announced that member Wendy Aguilar has a new baby boy and that all is well with Junior and Mom.
Corky, as Sergeant at Arms, did a great job of gleaning $$ from the members by using a patriotic theme to the question and answer time.
Mark Hampton gave a nice presentation thanking all the wonderful businesses that helped sponsor the various gifts and prizes that were donated to the Golf Day Event.
Dan Marples presented prizes to the 1st and second place teams, all names of which have been turned in to the USGA for various golf rules infractions. Members of the 3rd place team is thought to have initiated said action. Notes of special interest: Randy Johnson won closest to the pin at 3’10” and Dawn Aliverti was the only one to represent her gender in the competition and she played a great round. Brian Blount was presented a “special” prize, a Piddle-Poop & Putt device.
Dan and the Golf Committee brought several donated prizes to the meeting and people had the opportunity to win these prizes through a drawing. It became quite obvious to the audience that the Blount table had the process rigged and further investigation is taking place by the Sergeant at Arms Committee.
By all accounts the Golf Day event was a great success and the Golf Day Committee is to be congratulated for a job well done.
