Special thanks to CAMI LEONARD for leading the pricing crew and donating $100! STEVE SOELBERG for securing a great location, CHRIS CHRISTMAN for his amazing sales ability, ROGER BELL and LYNN SMITH for the use of the Quality Transportation trailer and transportation of goods to our sight. SALLY BALDWIN and husband JIM, for just being them and many others who helped out.
IT’S OFFICIAL
KIRSTEN STOFFER asked the club for a voice vote on accepting “ALL CHILDREN MUST PLAY” as a long-term club project. The club voted unanimously to accept the worthy cause as an ongoing project. Now we can officially raise money and carry it over to future years for the playground equipment for special needs kids at Martin Luther King School.

The annual Camp Roganunda workday is scheduled for Saturday June 7th announced by JOHN WARREN. Be prepared to eat and do a little work. Bring work gloves and bring a friend. Sign ups will be going around for the next few weeks.
CLERGY DAY NEXT WEEK AT THE OTHER RED LION
Don’t forget to bring your favorite clergy next week to our meeting next week and the DOWNTOWN Red Lion. Yakima School Superintendent Ben Soria will be our featured speaker, so you won’t want to miss this meeting. Note that MARY BETH WRIGHT is bringing not one, but two clergy! (Apparently she needs a little more spiritual help than most.)
PROGRAM: SAM REED, SECRETARY OF STATE
We were honored to have the Secretary of the State of Washington, Sam Reed as our speaker. Mr. Reed is the 14th Secretary of State replacing long time Secretary Ralph Munro in 2000. Sam is also the past president of the Olympia Kiwanis club and he shared some of his ideas for recruiting new members, such as holding prospective new member receptions.
Sam Reed was the Thurston County Auditor for 20 years before becoming Secretary of State, so he had lots of valuable experience to bring to the office. He started work and immediately had to deal with the Florida voting debacle, a 7.2 on the Richter scale earthquake, and he was served with a lawsuit over the blanket primary issue. He also took on the role of being the State Librarian after a bill introduced by our own Jim Clements brought that facility under the direction of the office of the Secretary of State.
Secretary Reed has implemented numerous efficiencies to the office including online candidate filing. Washington is the first state to do this. Also he is implementing digital archiving of state records, again we are the first State to do this.
