APRIL 22, 2003
PAT DANIELSON We were in the long narrow room and a little crowded but we were greeted warmly by BARBARA POOLE. DON DAVIDSON led us in prayer and guests were: STEVE EMHOFF’S Mother, Noella Osterberg, BECKY SCHOLL’S Mother, Gladys Copley (who certainly didn’t look to be in her ninety’s!), and Donna Kelly from Martin Luther King Elementary School. Donna shared wonderful cookies with us as a thank you for all the help we have done so far in helping out at their school. How did she find out we will do anything for food? Also Congrats to Becky who is a new Grandma to baby Morgan!
VENETTA MILLER and Donna Kelly shared the big plans for the Family Fun Day at Gap to Gap which we will be assisting Martin Luther King School to raise funds for the playground equipment. Start lining up who you would like to see in the Dunking Booth! Volunteers will be needed for that day – May 31st—so keep it open! Donna also reminded us that Thursday, April 24, is McTeacher Night at McDonalds at South 1st and Nob Hill.
PRESIDENT BARB GRECO then awarded MIKE WILSON with Life Membership. Way to go Mike!
SPENCER HATTON, yard sale chairperson extraordinaire, then reminded us of our upcoming Yard Sale on May 3. He thanked those helping with various items this week: SALLY BALDWIN with banners and signs, LINDA HACKETT with saw horses, DR. MIKE WILSON with BBQ grill, STEVE EMHOFF with 700 lbs of car snow chains to sell, VENETTA MILLER with a BIG coffee pot and BETH KLINGELE with cash boxes and I am sure many many more. Also remember your donations to Quality Transport. If you have any questions call Spencer.
KIRSTEN STOFFER reminded us that we will be voting on May 6 regarding making the play ground equipment at MLK a long term project so the funds can carry over for more than one year.
AMY NEAL wants us to remember our favorite project of Camp Roganunda workday for June 7!
AUDREY RICE passed around the signup for COMMUNITY CLEAN SWEEP, formerly known as Clean Up Green Up. We will be cleaning Kiwanis and Sherman Parks this Saturday April, 26. Sign ups are low so if you can be there give Audrey a call. We meet at 8 a.m. at the SE corner of Kiwanis Park. Bring your gardening equipment and gloves.
BECKY also reminded us of CLERGY DAY coming up on May 13 at the Red Lion Yakima Center where our meeting will be that day. Send your sign ups to Becky or sign up next week. Invite your pastor. The Superintendent of the Yakima Schools will be the speaker.
SALLY then introduced our guest speakers from the Sun Kings, Rich Austin and Darrin and John Uceny who gave us the inside scoop on the CBA for next year and shared the highlights from the Championship (and first season for the new owners) Season. Another great Kiwanis program.
