APRIL 8, 2003
PAT DANIELSON A great start for another great meeting: AMY NEAL greeted us (and also called a game of Bingo), JULIUS GLOVER led us in singing and ROGER BELL prayed for us.
Guests included our almost Yakima Kiwanian, Lynn Buchanan and RUSS DIX’S favorite and only daughter, the next Eisenhower Volleyball great, Kelsey Dix.
PRESIDENT BARB then welcomed new member DAN EVANS. Dan, whose name should be easy to remember, is a financial analyst with Washington Mutual and was sponsored by JOHN WARREN and co-sponsored by CAMI LEONARD. Welcome, Dan!
YARD SALE (OR CHURCH PARKING LOT SALE): SPENCER HATTON thanked all 29 people for signing up last week to participate in the May 3rd Yard Sale. Also a special thanks to STEVE SOELBERG for coming up with the place for the yard sale and to QUALITY TRANSPORTATION, ROGER BELL and LYNN SMITH for the donation of the trailer to collect the “stuff” prior to the yard sale. If you have donated items, give Roger or Lynn a call and arrange a time to bring it down to Quality Transportation, 3710 Gun Club Road. Telephone number is 248-2996. Also there are members like RUSS ACKLEY who will pick it up and deliver it for you. Russ’s number is 248-2008. Hangers are also a good thing to donate.
ROGER BELL, representative of the nominating committee announced the following officers and directors that will be voted on at the first meeting in May:

Vice President LYNN SMITH
Four of the following seven will be elected as Directors for the 2 year term, October, 2003 to September, 2005:

What a great group to choose from and THANK YOU to all that have agreed to run for office!
WALL OF SHAME/FAME: DOUG COCHRAN announced the top community service hour’s person as SPENCER HATTON who recently finished leading Songfest and is now leading the way on our Yard Sale. He is going to be a hard person to beat out but we can all try!
LT. GOV. STEVE EMHOFF announced that our club can now participate in the Save Old Spectacles by either bringing old eye glasses to our meetings and toss in the box or decorate a box for your work and collect them there. JOE KENNISH offered Long’s Drug as a place for a box. Thanks, Steve and Joe!
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: PRESIDENT BARB reminded us that we can help out Rotary and our club’s service hours and our community by signing up for Habitat for Humanity during April, any Monday through Saturday. Let Barb know!
VENETTA MILLER said that plans were progressing and she will be meeting with Donna Kelly regarding the FAMILY ROCK THE GAP afternoon fun on May 31st.
SARGEANT MIKE WILSON managed to get almost everyone in his fining duties. Good job for the administrative budget! STEVE EMHOFF bragged on son, Jason, who is in Texas looking for pieces of the Shuttle as part of the organized search parties. He will give a program on the project when he returns.
PROGRAM: DOUG then introduced our program Wenn Beubnash on Aging and Long Term Care. Wenn, who is working for former member Helen Bradley, was born and raised in Yakima. She is sociology major with an emphasis in public health and is taking over the project on “Benefits Check Up” for Aging and Long Term Care. Benefits Check Up is a nationwide web site, www.benefitscheckup.org, where you can investigate, learn and sign up for benefits for the elderly. You type in the zip code of the area you are check and info for that area will be available, very useful for those children whose elderly parents live away from them. It is completely anonymous but does ask pertinent questions regarding income so that you can tell if the person qualifies for different benefits. Also if your business deals with Senior Citizens you can have a link to their Web site on your Web site. It is updated regularly, completely free and available anytime. A great benefit for rural home bound seniors.
