MARCH 25, 2003
Russ Dix Meeting in the Plum Room at the recently renamed Red Lion, members of our club enjoyed a thoughtful invocation by VENETA MILLER, after being greeted by RUSS DIX.
CAMI LEONARD introduced guests Doug Rich who was brought by President BARB to discuss an upcoming community service opportunity (see below). BETH KLINGELE introduced Donna Kelly and Liz Juarez-Stump, of Martin Luther King Elementary, who were on hand to receive a $300 donation for the purchase of books for the MLK Kindergarten during the MLK Scholastic Bookfair.
KIRSTEN STOFFER quickly explained that we as a club can help out MLK by purchasing books during the upcoming Bookfair. A sheet was also passed around for those who could work a shift during the Bookfair. Contact Kirsten if you have questions about either.
Doug Rich explained the Rotary Habitat for Humanity housing projects that are currently underway. He told us that these are the 97th and 98th homes to be built by the Yakima Habitat Chapter and we have the opportunity to work side by side with our Rotary friends on this year's homes. Check your schedules and come next week prepared to put your name on the dotted line. No experience necessary. Contact Barb with any questions.
Interclubs for April were outlined by Kirsten. April 1 to Rodeo City, leave 6:00 AM from the south Chamber Parking Lot; April 14 to Ellensburg noon; and April 24 at Kamiakin. STEVE PICKETT reported on a successful interclub last Thursday to Sunnyside. LYNN SMITH, DOUG COCHRAN, STEVE EMHOFF and BARB GRECO made that one. Not an interclub opportunity, but a great event, is the annual West Valley Pie Auction/Sale this coming Monday at 7:00 PM
AUDREY RICE alerted us to mark our calendars for April 26th. That is the scheduled date for Clean Up Green Up, now know as Clean Sweep, and we will be responsible for Kiwanis and Sherman Parks as is usual. Sign up sheet next week.
A plea was made for volunteers to man/woman the SPENCER HATTON Yard Sale. Spencer will be bringing a sign up sheet next week for the sale scheduled for May 3. According to Spencer, this is a quick and relatively easy way to make up to $6,000 for our club. Everyone received his e-mail, so come prepared to sign up next week.
RON ANDERSON called a game of bingo won by Sergeant JAY CARROLL.
Jay then regaled us with a variety of sergeant fines in a failed attempt to extend the meeting long enough for the program to show up.
The newly crowned CBA Champion SunKings never did make it to the meeting, so Barb (suddenly gavel-less) adjourned.
