TUESDAY’S GUESTS

We were graced with a sizeable group of guests and potential members at the February 11 meeting. Cami Leonard brought Ty Beaudry with National City Mortage. John Warren brought potential members Dan Evans of Washington Mutual, and Mike Meskimen, an engineer at Gray and Osborn. Beth Klingele’s guest was Anne Hordan. Our usual guest, Lynn Buchanan, was on hand as well.

THE WALL OF FAME

Doug Cochran indicated there might be some big changes forthcoming on the Wall of Fame. Some members have increased Interclub attendance or reported community services hours. A new sheet will include new member sponsorships.

SONGFEST IS MARCH 15

Spencer Hatton circulated a sign-up sheet for the annual Songfest, which is scheduled for March 15 at the Capitol Theatre. Volunteer shifts run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

TIME TO SIGN UP FOR BLUE JEANS, TOO

The annual Kiwanis-DYE Blue Jeans Basketball Tournament will be March 3, 5 and 6 at Davis High School. Shifts are from 6-9 p.m. According to Mary Beth Peck, help is needed with concession sales, scoring, timing, and taking money at the door.

REMINDER TO COMMITTEE CHAIRS

Committee chairs are reminded to report their attendance, activity, and hours to Velma monthly so that she can include those in her reports.

STATE DOC SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

Ronald J. Farino, Community Involvement Program Coordinator with the Washington State Department of Corrections Ahtanum View Correctional Complex, and volunteer guardian, D. Roy Richards, provided the program for Tuesday’s meeting.

Farino reported that the Ahtanum complex houses 130 felons. Overall, DOC supervises 16,000 offenders in prison and 60,000 people in community custody. The Department is looking for creative ways to monitor lower risk offenders in order to help deal with the state’s $2.4 billion budget deficit.

There are 72 volunteers helping at the Ahtanum View complex. Many serve as part of risk management teams that help make decisions about the supervision of offenders who are about to be released and help supervise those offenders once released.
