DECEMBER 31, 2002

Russ Dix

Congratulations to all who made it to the last meeting of 2002: WENDY AGUILAR, ROD ALLEN, BRAIN BLOUNT, PAM CALDWELL, VELMA CRAWFORD, DON DAVIDSON, RUSS DIX, STEVE EMHOFF, CHERIE ERGESON, JACK GILBERT, BARB GRECO, JERRY HENDERSON, JOE KENNISH, CAMI LEONARD, RICH LEWIS, MEL LIGHT, CORKY MATTINGLY, STEVE SOELBERG, AND DR. MIKE WILSON.

The above members were joined by an interclub from Kamiakin consisting of: Earl Hall, Chuck Uber, Lynn Buchanon, and Steve Fisher. Steve Emhoff also brought his brother Keith.

Those who made the meeting were treated to a brief talk by Laura Blount. She talked about her first six months at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. She lives in one of the largest dorms in the nation; 4,000 students. She detailed some of her early experiences, which seemed to include a great number of people yelling at her (it is to help these future officers think and react under pressure she told us later). Her freshman class spent the hottest summer on record learning the ropes of academy life and doing a little sailing (it’s not the navy for nothing). From Laura’s induction on June 28th until Parent’s Weekend in August, she was totally consumed by Navy activities. No one left “the yard”, so it was a treat when her folks showed up and they could take a tour of the surrounding area. Now that all the upper classmen have returned and school is in session, her activities are still regimented from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm every day. The rest of the time is spent sleeping. Laura passed around books on life at the Academy and talked enthusiastically about her time there so far. It is obvious to all who were at the meeting that Laura will make a first class officer at the conclusion of her four years of training. Brain can be very proud of his daughter.

Board Meeting this Thursday, noon at the Marketplace Deli.

Sergeants Committee Meeting January 21st at Grants around 4:30 or 5:00.
