APPLE CUP LUNCHEON NOV 20
The 9th Annual Apple Valley/Kamiakin Apple Cup Luncheon is coming of Wednesday Nov 20 Noon at the West Coast Gateway Hotel. The $30 ticket price includes a gourmet lunch and lots of fun. Contact Ron Bonlender 452-0563 or Doug Bommersbach 248-5660 for tickets. As an added bonus we get credit for two interclubs if we get four Yakima Kiwanians at the luncheon. Get your tickets early, as this event will probably sell out.

GET WELL SOON NANCINE
It was reported that one of our newest members, NANCINE HAWKINS, is battling a bad case of pneumonia. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

INTERCLUBS WOW!
LYNN SMITH said that we had probably a record with eight interclubs for the month of October. Great job Lynn and all those who attended.

KIRSTEN STOFFER HONORED FOR YCPO WORK
STEVE EMHOFF presented KIRSTEN STOFFER with a K Family Against Drunk Driving Pin and a Governors Special Pin for all of her hard work promoting and setting up communications for the YCPO (Young Children Priority One) projects for the district. Check out the new YCPO website at www.YCPO50.org for some great information about district projects.

K FAMILY AGAINST DRUNKEN DRIVING CAMPAIGN
One of the YCPO focuses this year is our affiliation with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). Our promotion is “K Family Against Drunk Driving” and we are promoting awareness during Thanksgiving week by encouraging the public to tie a red ribbon on their car antenna to show their support. Steve Emhoff and Kirsten passed out red ribbons at the meeting. If you need more contact Steve or Kirsten.

MEMBERSHIP
RUSS DIX is chairing the membership committee meeting this year. The next committee meeting is Thursday, Nov 14 at Russ’s office. Pizza will be provided.

PROGRAM: OUR OWN MEL LIGHT ON THE FBI ACADEMY
Our best programs come from our own members and today we had a program from one of our best. Sergeant MEL (Mad Dog Mel) LIGHT spent 11 weeks at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA this summer. The FBINA was established in 1972 and is housed on a Marine base. You have to get through both the Marine checkpoint and the FBI checkpoint to get in and it’s not open to the public. The program is all paid for by the FBI and provides an opportunity for qualified law enforcement personnel to be trained in more effective and innovative police techniques. Participants learn that giving up is not an option. Mel attended at least eight hours a day of classes followed by intense physical exercise. Even though he’s an “old guy” he made the top category of runners and earned a brick from the infamous Yellow Brick Road training course. Mel took many classes including computer classes and a class called “mass media and the police” where he was interviewed by Tom Brokaw, Ashliegh Banfield from MSNBC and was on the show “FBI Files”. No one saw him on TV, but he claims he has the tapes as evidence.
