OCTOBER 29, 2002
Russ Dix President BARB began the meeting with a monstrous gavel, vowing not to lose this one like she has the three previous.
JULIUS GLOVER led us in song, the pledge and the invocation.
The meeting was quickly taken over by the Grim Reaper, who conducted an Administrative Hearing of EX(not past)-PRESIDENT DOUG COCHRAN. Doug's court appointed attorney, STAN PRATT, was unable to attend the hearing, so Doug had no voice in answering his many accusers.
ARCHIE SUTTON took Doug to task for not having a gavel his entire year. He was made to hold Barb's new gavel, in present arms position, as punishment.
DR. MIKE WILSON cited Doug's continued assumption of Sergeant duties throughout his year and the fact that many times the fines were less than politically correct.
STEVE EMHOFF came to the defense of poor little sailor SALLY BALDWIN, who Doug had consistently belittled during his presidency.
AUDREY RICE accused Doug of being myopic when it came to singing the National Anthem each week. She pointed out that there were many in the club who could, and should, start our singing (although that wasn't supported with a later reprisal of the welcome song).
J. BLAKE chastised Doug for not allowing the proper training of Bingo callers during the year, because while President, Doug did most of the calling himself.
Finally, ROGER THE RAT complained that Doug had destroyed his carefully crafted identity, when it was obvious during his year Doug should have had his own mascot. DOUG THE DONKEY was on hand to show him the evil of his ways.
A guilty plea was filed on Doug's behalf, but upon further consideration, he was admitted into the illustrious Past President's Club. He immediately left the building for important meetings, but did state he was going to have to work hard if he was going to live up to the low standards of the PPC.
RON ZIRKLE introduced guests: Kirk Williamson from the Tri-City Industry Club; an interclub from Kamiakin: Angie Wold, Galen Sigare, Chuck Uber, Lynn Buchanon, Steve Fischer and Ken Johnson. BARBARA POOL had with her Jeanne Thompson a CPA at LeMaster & Daniels. RICH LEWIS explained the demise of Lassie at great length, brought his guest Dave Dion, and passed the Rally Monkey on to PAM CALDWELL. Barb made a Presidential decision to bring back the welcome song for this meeting.
Dr. Mike received a Ruby K pin for his sponsorship of 30 members into the club. RUSS DIX received a four year perfect attendance pin and LINDA HACKETT got one for three years.
A Membership Committee meeting has been scheduled for Monday, November 4th at 5:30 at Idea Marketing. Those on the committee, as well as any other interested parties, are asked to attend. Barb has set the goal at 100 members by the end of her year.
LYNN SMITH reported on an interclub to the Family Affair function in the Tri-Cities last Friday and Kirk Williamson gave us an update on the ongoing legal battles over the embezzling of funds from Family Affair Yakima. All the bills have been paid thanks to an insurance settlement, but there is still some outstanding legal issues to solve before Family Affair will be able to take place in Yakima again. Next year events are scheduled in the Tri-Cities on Oct. 18 & 19 and Spokane on Oct. 25 & 26. Just under 13,000 people attended last weekend's event in the Tri-Cities.
DON KOHLER called Bingo, Lynn Smith reminded those on Chain Gang of duties this Thursday and Friday and Dr. Mike was the Sergeant.
Barb attempted to end the meeting with her gavel, but it had again disappeared. That's one a meeting so far this year.
