Pat Danielson

The Peter, Paul and Mary song comes to mind--"If I had a gavel...no, If I had a hammer...no., If I had a mallet...no." PRESIDENT BARB has presided over three meetings and has lost three governing items. What can be done to help our President?

The remaining membership took over and continued the meeting with great decorum. RICH LEWIS shared his invocation and was our greeter.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LYNN SMITH says that Chain Gang has a bye this week and next week is Judge's night with DIRK MARLER AND RUTH REUKAUF, but how did JON ISON get in on such a group. Is it because he has been before the Judges the most?

Lynn as interclub chairperson announced that thanks especially to LT GOV. STEVE EMHOFF, PAM CALDWELL, KIRSTEN STOFFER and various other members, we have had 7 interclubs this month!

Friday, as many of you are reading this, there is a Family Affair meeting in the Tri Cities with Governor Neal speaking. Our club will have another interclub there with Steve, Pam and WENDY AGUILAR.

One of the best moments any club can have is the induction of a new member. NANCINE HAWKINS was officially brought into our club by PRESIDENT BARB, her co-sponsor although her sponsor, MIKE WILSON, was not in attendance. More on Nancine later.

ROGER BELL made the unhappy announcement that the Santa Program is no longer. We did not have enough volunteers to perform the Santa duties at the schools so the Board voted to end this special service project. They are still exploring possibilities of giving gifts and we will have our own Santa at the YMCA Santa luncheon and at our family Christmas dinner/party.

AMY NEAL is taking on the AKTION CLUB this week with help from BECKY SCHOLL, WENDY AGUILARA and PRESIDENT BARB.

Camp Roganunda needs some help again this Saturday. STEVE PICKETT said that a couple more hours of work is needed in the dining hall and if anyone can help out give him a call. He said the furnace will be in in a couple of weeks.

JON ISON was substitute Sergeant and brought in the bucks! Good job, JON.

SALLY BALDWIN, our program chairperson, then introduced our programs, Three Classification Talks:

PAM CALDWELL
Although Pam professed nervousness, she did a great job in letting us know her better. Being born in Yakima, she reminded us of the many memories of growing up here. Her Dad was manager of a service station and they would bring his dinner to him in the evening and she would watch the Hot Rods on Yakima Avenue. On special occasions they got to go to Lariat Drive In.
Her Mom worked at the Pantry and Pam also spent much time at the Capital Theater. Her family then moved to Las Vegas and then to Concord, California. Then they moved to Walla Walla where she thought she would be going to WA-HI, but ended up back in Yakima and graduated from Davis. Next was a spell in Tri Cities where she was going to nursing school, and drove a school bus. Then she was back to Yakima and drove city buses for 14 years. She then decided that real estate was her real career goal and has been a Realtor and a broker since. She has 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 5 dogs, 2 birds, 1 cat and STEVE!.

JOE KENNISH
Joe grew up in Lacey, Washington the third child of ten -- a good Catholic family. Baseball was his first love growing up and he had his own practice field on their own 5 acres. He graduated from ST. Martins and then went on to St. Martin's College, was drafted in 1970 and spent military years at Fort Lewis, Virginia, Georgia and Vietnam. During college he worked for F.W. Woolworth which got him interested in retail and went back into retail after he got out of the Army in 1972. A confirmed bachelor, he worked in Lacey, Spokane, Montana and Alaska but he met Cheryl in Alaska and there went the confirmed bachelor! They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year with a trip back to Alaska. Joe is now with Longs Drug here in Yakima and has two children, a daughter, 22, at WSU and a son, 20, at Whatcom Community College who will go on to the UW. He will have to pay fines for both schools! Joe has a record collection of 5000 - 7000 LP's and has a 1966 Pontiac Lemanz (sp?). His claim to fame is his wife's best friend is Helen on Survivor and they get to go to the final show in December!

NANCINE HAWKINS
Our newest member comes to us from Walla Walla. She was born in Boulder City Nevada and had a wonderful childhood. Her father was the head of Hoover Dam. She had 6 siblings. Nancine has had many goals in life and seems to have met most of them. She got her NBA at UNLV and opened her own business tutoring the basketball players during the time when UNLV was a powerhouse on the courts. She sold her business and went to Walla Walla and opened a restaurant. Her goals she accomplished by age 50 were to sky dive, go to Europe and get her PHD (from UW). She was going to retire but saw an opportunity at KYVE and is now the development director there. She has 1 daughter, 7 step children and many grandchildren. Nancine has had many accomplishments and we can really use her talents in our club.

Welcome new members, we are sooooooo lucky to have you!

New week's meeting will be Doug's trying to get into the Past President's Club. The meeting on November 5 (election day) is Mel Light on his experiences at the FBI Academy.

Thanks also to all members who made it possible to donate $150.00 to the Bronwyn Hatton Endowment Fund at CWU in memory of Jed Hatton.
