PROGRAM – BILL KOBABE
Manager of Neighborhood Development for the City of Yakima
Bill Kobabe gave a very informative presentation on various tax incentives available to business and property owners in Yakima. A select area of Yakima has been selected a Renewal Community (RC) because of its high level of poverty. This area of Yakima has been designated one of the poorest 40 areas in the United States.
There are many federal tax incentives available to business who either are in the RC or who employee people who live in the RC such as $1500 for new employees, increased section 179 deduction (first year write off of certain new assets), commercial renovation deduction, and zero capital gain on certain real property.
Bill provided several websites for learning about these tax incentives including at locator site where you can enter the address of a property you are interested in to see if it is in the RC. They are:
www.ci.yakima.wa.us - look under Doing Business and then Incentives for a summary of Federal, State and City programs
www.hud.gov/offices/cpd/ezec/ - click on the “address locator” under helpful tools to see if property is in the RC
https://eweb1.sba.gov/hubzone/internet/ – another informative site
There will be another forum/workshop presented by local CPA’s on June 19th at 7:30 PM at the Masonic Center.
