BECKY SCHOLL (The List Lady) passed around two sign-up sheets. One for Invocators and one for Clergy Day. Clergy Day will be, thanks to the hard last minute work of ROGER BELL, May 14th, with Dale Edler as speaker.
President DOUG reminded committee chairs that their job descriptions are due Wednesday, although he neglected to state a time, which means he will be getting a lot of late night e-mails. He also conducted a quick applause poll to judge if he had been too hard or too easy on April Program Chair SALLY BALDWIN. Too easy was the ruling, but he failed to impart any abuse during the meeting.
MAC PORTER announced Golf Day will be June 25 @ Elks as usual. There will be prizes for all and special prizes just for women/ladies. If any company wishes to donate, please talk with MAC.
BRIAN BLOUNT reported on the interclub to Grandview that morning. There were five, but due to a difference of opinion on time there could have been six. BRIAN, DIRK MARLER, RON ANDERSON, RUSS DIX and STEVE EMHOFF caught a ride in the brianmobile, while CORKY MATTINGLY was a few minutes away from catching a ride and making the meeting.
A couple of invites were left on the tables. May 7 a breakfast at the Yakima Valley Visitors and Convention Bureau from 7:30 to 8:30 A.M. Cost is $13 and reservations can be made at 575-3010. A congratulations dinner for Esther Huey from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Call 575-6114 for more details.
DAN FISHER was stymied as sergeant.
RUSS DIX called a rather lengthy game of bingo.
SALLY BALDWIN introduced speaker Joyce Olenik from Baker Boyer Bank. She is a woman of many talents and interests, not to mention degrees, but most importantly she is the keeper of the Kiwanis Charitable Trust Account. She gave a historical perspective of the stock market, stating that we are now at a place similar to where we were in the 70's. That time frame was characterized by 10 years of sideways movement and very little growth in the stock market. A great deal of volatility was experienced during that time, much like now. Many of the biggest drops occur in October and things tend to rebound in January. It is comforting to know someone of Joyce's knowledge and experience is in charge of managing our Trust Account. She explained how the Trust is broken down and that we as a club have distributed an estimated $1.2 million dollars over the years the Trust has been in existence. We still have close a $1 million in principle, which is what Joyce and her staff manage. Her parting words were to remember the Trust when it comes to our wills as the only way for it to grow is to have funds donated to it or to sell stocks/bonds for a profit, which is then reinvested
