Also welcome Gary McGlothlen from Apple Valley, Kelsey Dix and Kiwanis Exchange Student from Columbia, Sama Serrano, guests of RUSS DIX and potential new member Barbara Pool, guest of her sponsor DAWN ALIVERTI. DONUT AND COFFEE SOCIAL AT KIWANIS PARK APRIL 20TH!

Don’t miss the “donut and coffee social” at Kiwanis Park hosted by BRIAN BLOUNT and the Parks Committee, Saturday April 20th from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM. By the way, we might pick up some litter while we’re there. Sign ups will be going around. Bring your kids, gloves, rakes and shovels. Gloves are especially important; my Calvin found many ”treasures” last year….

SONGFEST A SUCCESS

A long-time Kiwanis event, Songfest, was held Saturday March 16th at the Capitol. This year SPENCER HATTON announced that Argus Insurance underwrote most of the cost. A big thank you to BRIAN BLOUNT for garnering that support. Lots of service hours we’re earned and money too. Our revenue is up 80% over last year.

WORK SOURCE YAKIMA JOB FAIR, Tuesday April 16th

A representative from Work Source Yakima (formerly the unemployment office) was on hand to promote the upcoming Job Fair 2002 to be held Tuesday April 16th at the Convention Center from noon to 6pm. The Job Fair is for job seekers, including youth, and businesses with current or future job openings. For more information call 574-0105.

PROGRAM – CLASSIFICATION TALKS – RON’S ANDERSON AND ZIRKLE AND CPA STEVE SOELBERG

The best programs are our own members and Tuesday we were entertained by three of our newest.

RON #1 (ANDERSON)

Ron Anderson (not Zirkle) is the legislative director for the Central Washington Home Builders Association. Prior to that post he spent 14 years in real estate. He’s married to former Kiwanian Mary Jane Baumgarten (Corky’s sister) and most recently has been heavily involved in the Yakima Port committee.

STEVE SOELBERG

Steve is a CPA at Moss Adams, a Coug and a transplant to Yakima from the wet side. He’s been married 10 years to Jean and has a seven-year-old daughter April (born in December) and a son Adam, with a November birthday (tax planning at it’s best). Steve likes to scuba dive, play pool, and yes, Archie, he golfs.

RON #2 (ZIRKLE)

Ron Zirkle (not Anderson) is our Yakima County Prosecutor. He’s a local farm boy who grew up in the Highland area. He started out teaching but found that too political, ha ha. Graduated from Central and Gonzaga. Before joining the prosecutors’ office in 1980 he practiced law for a time, including two years with Gary McGlothlen. He’s married with a son and daughter, and enjoys getting out of the office each Tuesday to join us for lunch.
